In Trash Cans Come in Many Different Shapes and Sizes, I played Finnick, an anthropomorphic fox photographer in his 20s. He is best friends with Neeko, a raccoon, and their dynamic is that they are polar opposites. While Neeko is flighty and consistently unemployed, Finnick is logical and hard-working.
Part of the rehearsal process of this play involved doing research into the animals we played. By researching the physicality and mannerisms of different types of foxes, I gained a lot of insight into what movement can do for a performance.
Similarly to What I Learned, I became a lot more comfortable in my movement as a result of the rehearsal process of this show. There were some moments where I had to be very comfortable with certain blocking, such as yelling on the phone to Neeko while running backwards through a parking lot. Now, I am more knowledgeable about blocking and how I learn movement, which impacts the way I learn a part in rehearsal and informs the way I block shows myself as a director.
