Omar, a former actor turned director, is running a failing theatre company in Kansas. When bright, ambitious Marty arrives and auditions for one of his shows, he begins to think that she could save the company. However, when his rich, corrupt father reenters his life, his vices start to reemerge. Marty and Omar eventually start to fall for each other and develop a relationship. When Marty gets the opportunity of a lifetime and Omar tries to stop her, it seems that their relationship is over. Years later, Marty is a famous director, having turned from performance to directing just like Omar. Omar left the theatre behind forever, secluding himself from the world. When their mutual friend from their time in Kansas, Tommy, overdoses, they meet again at a funeral. Omar is forced to confront his self-sabotaging tendencies... but it may be too late. This play is told over the course of three seperate periods of time.
