After getting released from prison on good behavior, recovered drug addict Sylvie is just trying to keep her head down, get a job, and make it through each day. One day, she receives a shocking call; her estranged younger sister, Miranda, was found dead, and the police don't know if it was a suicide, homicide, or tragic accident. Sylvie, who hasn't been in contact with her family in years, learns that she is the closest living relative and is asked to take in Miranda's twin children, Pi and Pie. Suddenly parenting two children, Sylvie must grapple with her sister's detah and resolves to solve the case herself as she deals with the guilt of not reaching out to her sister. Jordan, the detective who put Sylvie in jail all those years ago, is assigned to the case, and against their better judgement, the two decide to work together and slowly start to fall for each other. The twins swear that their father, who disappeared after the incident and hasn't been seen since, was the perfect involved parent; however, he was actually abusive to Miranda and threatened to kill her multiple times. Pi genuinely believes the things he is saying about his father, but Pie, who witnessed the abuse, is lying to protect herself and her brother because she is afraid of him coming back. As new details arise and the case heats up, the characters are faced with love, loss, and the cold, hard reality of death.
